On Thursday, September 6, in the latest move to displace the homeless, the city of St. Louis closed off the sidewalks of the 1400 block of Locust St. in front of Larry Rice’s New Life Evangelistic Center. The following was first published at CASINO*TOWN*POETS in reaction to the city’s latest move and to the attitudes of some wealthy downtown loft dwellers (see here: http://fox2now.com/2012/09/05/city-plans-to-shut-down-sidewalks-near-downtown-homeless-shelter/)
war on the poor
criminalize the homeless
war on the poor.
this thoughtless abyss
of endless phantasmagoric urban sprawl
back against the wall.
criminalize the homeless
they got a war on the poor.
just work yr way up
the system will work for you
nothin a little elbow grease can’t fix
criminalize the homeless
they got a war on the poor.
we need condos babel tall to the sky
we need to extend the empire
into everyone’s life.
you fight back
you get fucked
you get beat
don’t bash back against the city
look to yr legislature
get outa the streets
motherfuckers…
they got a war on the poor
criminalize the homeless
they got a war on the poor
criminalize the homeless
they got a war on the poor
we put fences where you walk
property everywhere you look
you cannot occupy public space
this is the dark hydra of capitol
flowing like an ocean
and you drown.
hey bum!
turn that frown upside down!
cut yr hair!
take a shower!
get ahead
go to grad school
get a nine to five
shoot yr dreams in the head!
we say NO FUCK NO
they got a war on the poor!
nowhere to go
blind panapticon
but we fuck shit up
we clash and tear down the fences
we got a war on the city!
defend the homeless and the poor!
just to exist we shouldn’t have to spend money!
this is class crass war!
we got a war on the city!
defend the homeless and the poor!
just to exist we shouldn’t have to spend money!
this is a class crass war!
fuck yeah. that was just what i needed.
